Abstract

|
This study was conducted to recognize the relationship between health perceptions and health locus of control on health behaviors in order to provide baseline data for an efficient- health education plan and for further research.
The convenience samples of 253 were drawn from the employees of the five business firms in Seoul.
The three instruments used were Health Perception Questionnaire ( 32 items ) developed by John E. Ware Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scales ( 18 items ) developed by WalIston and Heaith Behavior Scale ( 12 items ) developed by the researcher.
The correlation between six health perception variables and three health locus control variables on health behaviors were as follows
1. The higher the sc-ore of health behavior compliance, the higher the score of perception of current health ( r = 1084, P < .05 ), health outlook ( r = 3517, P K . 005 ) , resistance -susceptibility ( r = 2067, P K .005 ).
There were no significant correlation between the score of perception of health worry/concern, and rejection of sick role.
2..T he higher the score of health locus of control-internal and health locus of control powerful others, the higher the score of health behavior compliance, showing the positive correlation C r = 1972, P < . 005 )
However, there was negative correlation, showing the higher score of health locus of controlchance, the lower the score of health behavior compliance ( r = 1503, P K . 01).
Based on the above findings, the followings are suggested
1) The development of a coordinated plan about health perception and health locus of control which could lead desired health behavior is deemed necessary.
2) Further studies identifying other variables influencing health behaviors are suggested.
